Ernest Kennedy Cathey, age 89, of Smyrna, TN, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 23, 2016. A native of Nashville, Tennessee he was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Elizabeth Early Cathey; and brother, John William Cathey and his wife, Ted.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna. Brother Wayne Cornwell will officiate. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Pegram, TN.

Mr. Cathey is survived by his loving wife, Rita Ann Johnson Cathey; son, Jason Cathey and his wife, Mary of Knoxville, TN; granddaugthers, Elizabeth and Emma Cathey; mother-in-law, Geraldine Johnson of Smyrna; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Cathey was a member of Highland Heights Church of Christ. He was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Navy. He was a retired EMT with Metro Nashville.

Friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna.
