Mary Elizabeth White Davenport, age 99, of Murfreesboro passed away on August 7, 2010 at AdamsPlace HealthCare. She was born in Christiana and a lifelong resident of Rutherford County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Burrell and Mary Lizzie Lynch White; her husband of 46 years, Hoyte Wood Davenport; son, Larry Davenport and wife Dorothy Jean Gum Davenport; two brothers, Bob Sim White and Frank Glenn White. She is survived by three grandchildren; Granddaughter, Sherrie Thomas and husband Ray Thomas, Granddaughter, Melanie Davenport, Grandson, Mike Davenport; Five Great grandchildren, Walker Thomas and his wife, Melissa Shields Thomas, Stephanie Thomas, Meredith Thomas, Taylor Davenport and Shelbie Davenport; one Great Great Granddaughter, Riley Thomas and one special granddaughter, Judy Goldie. She is also survived by special care givers; Doris Ann Jacobs, Brenda Sledge, Nell Taylor, Janie Armstrong, Louise Brewer and Mami Miller. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Brother David Young officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery in Christiana. Elizabeth Davenport was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, neighbor, friend and devoted teacher. She was known to her family and many others as Ma . She was a graduate of Christiana and received her BS Degree in Education majoring in English from Middle Tennessee State College in 1951. Elizabeth retired from the Rutherford County School system where she had worked for 40 years as a devoted teacher and as an Attendance Supervisor for the Rutherford County Superintendent. She was a dedicated member and officer of the RCRTA (Retired Teachers Association). Her students who are still living speak of her as one of their favorite teachers. She made a positive impact on many lives, and her kindness lives on in the hearts of many. She was a member of the East Main Church Christ where she enjoyed many years in the Ladies Quilting Class. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM August 9, 2010 and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at 2:00 PM August 10, 2010 at WOODFIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL. 893-5151
