Edward Norton "Ed" Fowler, age 91 of Smyrna, died Thursday Nov. 28, 2013. He was born July 26, 1922 in Dyersburg, to the late Edward Clayton and Tossye May Bush Fowler. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Bush Fowler. After graduating from Gallatin High School in 1941, where he played football, with the Green Wave Team in 1939, 40 and 41, he joined the US Air Force and served four years as a pilot, flying B-17s and B-29s. His tour of duty was in the Central Pacific. Ed married his high school sweetheart, Marie Turner, and moved to Nashville. A daughter, Terri, was born to them there. He majored in Physical Education at Union University and Peabody University, and taught in Nashville City Schools for 28 years before his retirement. Ed was a member of Haywood Hills Baptist Church, where his membership began in 1964. He served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. The Fowlers moved to Smyrna in 2003. Mr. Fowler is survived by his wife, Marie Turner Fowler; daughter, Terri Fowler of Nashville. Graveside service will be 3:00 PM Monday at Woodlawn Memorial Park, with Pastor Barry Ellis officiating.
