Edward Bowlin Maupin III, age 75 of Murfreesboro, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016. He was born in Shelbyville, TN on February 7, 1940 to the late Edward B. "Eddie" Maupin, Jr. and Mary-Ruth Mclean Maupin. He was also preceded in death by uncle, Samuel Kennedy Maupin, Sr. and his wife Helen Alexander Maupin, his aunt Vidora McLean Andrews and her husband Charles Lester Andrews.
He is survived by his son John B. "Bo" Maupin and his wife Christine of Columbus, OH, two grandchildren, Elizabeth Maupin and Grant Bowlin Maupin, cousins Samuel Kennedy "Ken" Maupin Jr., Mary Helen Maupin, Nancy Walsh, Eugene Dillon Andrews, and Don McLean Andrews, and his former wife Brenda Ashe Maupin.
Graveside services will be 2:30pm Tuesday at Jenkins Chapel Cemetery in Bedford County. Dr. John Hinkle will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4:00pm until 7:00pm Monday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Maupin was a graduate of Shelbyville Central HS in 1958. He received his Bachelor of Science in Transportation from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1963. Mr. Maupin was a long time fan and supporter of UT athletics. He served in the US Marine Corps Reserve 1961-1966.
He began work after completing his degree at UT with RJ Reynolds in Winston Salem and was then with Hunt Wesson in Memphis prior to relocating to Knoxville in 1966 where he began work with Rohm & Haas Company (now Dow Chemical Company) where he remained until he retired in 2004. He served the company as purchasing manager for over 20 years.
Mr. Maupin was involved heavily in the National Association of Purchasing Management and served on the National Board and 3 years as National Membership Chairman.
He was a Rotarian with over 35 years of perfect attendance, was president and held most offices of Rotary Club of West Knoxville. He moved to Murfreesboro in 2007 where he served as President of the Murfreesboro Rotary Club in 2010-11. He was a 4-time recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award for service to Rotary International and was highly instrumental in establishing leadership training for Rotarians in District 6780. Included among his many Rotary recognitions was a personal letter from then Rotary International President Jim Lacy. He served as District chair for the last 6 years and was involved with many local organizations and charities in Knoxville and Murfreesboro and served in various positions.
