"Coach" Wisdom, Sr.
September 14, 1941 – December 26, 2016
Edward Allen "Coach" Wisdom, Sr, age 75, of LaVergne, passed away December 26, 2016 He was born in Lincoln County but spent most of his life in Rutherford County. He is the son of the late Ed and Ruth Armstrong Wisdom. He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter Elizabeth Ashley Wisdom and two brothers Homer and Don Wisdom.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Georgia Cunningham Wisdom, sons Eddie (Tammy) Wisdom and Paul (Kecia) Wisdom and daughters Paula (Tommy) Yarbrough and Luana (Wayne) Briley as well as 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
While raising his family Allen was a dairy farmer and later retired in 2004 from International Comfort Products. He was an avid sports fan and coached little league baseball for nine years and youth basketball for twelve years. He was an active supporter of all Smyrna youth sports programs. He was a devoted fan and season ticket holder of Vanderbilt baseball, basketball, and football.
He was first and foremost a Christian having served for decades as either a deacon or an elder at Mars Hill Church of Christ. Over the past few years he has been a member of Old Jefferson Church of Christ.
Visitation will be at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna Tuesday, December 27, 2016 between 5:00-8:00 and Wednesday, December 28, 2016 between 9:00-10:00 with funeral services beginning at 10:00. Charles Eaton and Paul Wisdom Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are grandsons Doug Wisdom, Paul Wisdom, Jr., Evan Wisdom, Franklin Briley, and sons-in- law Tommy Yarbrough and Wayne Briley.
Honorary pallbearers are nephews Terry Wisdom and Kevin Wisdom, and close friends David Franklin, Guy Faulk, Vern Reid, and Wayne Haynes.
The family would like to acknowledge Zan Phillips and Marrier Burrow, from Alive Hospice, for the love and care they gave to Mr. Wisdom.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Allen Wisdom to Alive Hospice Murfreesboro, Special Kids, and/or Old Jefferson Church of Christ.
