Obituary

Edward "Beck" Beckman, age 82, of Smyrna, TN, died Tuesday, January 2, 2018. A native of Lawrence County, TN, he was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Barnett and her husband Logan; and brother, James Barnett.

A Funeral Mass will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church. Rev. Michael Roark will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Wilma Cantrell Beckman; daughter, Leigh Ann Gill and her husband Harry of Smyrna; grandchildren, Matthew Arrington, Taylor Arrington, Peyton Arrington, and Erik Koxvold; brothers, Tommy Beckman of Loretto, TN, and Billy Barnett of Lexington, AL; sisters, Joyce Crum of Loretto, TN, Mary Ann Clark of Leoma, TN, Doris Barnett of Lawrenceburg, TN, and Kay Barnett of Loretto, TN; along with many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Beckman was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church. He was a retired Lieutenant with the Tennessee Highway Patrol with 28 years of service. During his time, Mr. Beckman worked security under both Governor's Winfield Dunn and Lamar Alexander at the Governor's Mansion. Later, Mr. Beckman served as a personal assistant and head of security to both Marvin Runyeon and Jerry Benefield.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The Tennessee Highway Patrol will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials in memory of Mr. Beckman can be made to the St. Luke Catholic Church Building Fund.

Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna. A Rosary Service will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
