Duel “Butch” Lane, age 69 of Murfreesboro died peacefully Monday, September 7, 2026, with his family at his side. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, grew up in Maynardville, and spent the majority of his life in Murfreesboro. He was the son of the late Duel Lane, Sr. and Bonnie Sue Cook Martin who survives him, and a grandson of the late Arthur Lee Cook and Elizabeth Cook.
In addition to his mother, Butch is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Jackie Primm Lane; sons, Chris Lane (Lisa) and Chad Lane (Terra); grandchildren, Duel Lane, Leraas Lane, Taylor Millraney, Orlin Lane, and Olivia Lane; siblings, Debbie Pepper (dec. Roger), Kathy Kilburg (Dennis), Robbie Martin (Robin), and Randall Martin (Robin), along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Butch was a proud United States Army veteran, retiring at the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7) after 15 years of service. During his time in the Army, he worked as a drill sergeant, spent time in armory, and later became a recruiter. He was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge.
Butch was a devoted Christian man who held the role of deacon at his church. He cherished time with his family and enjoyed music, hunting, fishing, and the outdoors, and was a proud fan of the Tennessee Volunteers. He proudly coached as an assistant wrestling coach for both of his sons at Oakland High School. The family would also like to honor Renee Chung (Thomas), his bone marrow transplant donor, whose gift gave Butch many additional years with his loved ones.
