Obituary

Drew Ashley Pate slipped peacefully into eternal slumber on Wed., Aug. 15, 2012. Born on Jan. 6, 1977, he was 35 years old. He was a treasured husband, father, and son. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kristin Moore Pate, his loving parents Judy Turner Goodwin (Steve), W.A. (Buddy) Pate (Bernice). Other survivors include his stepsister, Julie Goodwin of Brentwood, and stepbrother, John Goodwin (Becca), Murfreesboro. His surviving grandmothers are Jane Goodwin of Murfreesboro and Rachel Scott, Nashville. His 11 yr. old daughter, Olivia Vera Lily Pate, however, was the light of his life, the reason I get up every day, he often said. Along with Kristin, he and Lily created beautiful memories together that will be forever cherished. Drew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vera and S.L. (Buddy) Turner of Bethesda; Alvin and Margaret Pate, Eagleville; and Robert Goodwin, Murfreesboro. His many extended family members and friends also mourn his passing. Growing up as a Riverdale High School gym rat, Drew played with other coaches kids while his parents, Buddy and Judy, coached the Riverdale Lady Warriors. In high school he lettered in basketball and golf, being named the DNJ Riverdale Golfer of the Year before his graduation in 1996. He remembered with pride playing on the State Championship Walter Hill basketball team with other amazingly talented young athletes. Many local sports followers still recall this team as being the best junior high basketball team ever to play in Rutherford County. After high school Drew attended the community colleges of Vol State and Motlow. Later he enlisted in the Navy and served on the Bon Homme Richard in San Diego, California. Drew was a skilled writer and never failed to express his deep affection for his family, friends, and Tennessee football (Go, Vols!). His words, I just wanted to call and tell you, I love you, will always be remembered by his loved ones. His great ability to cook, especially barbeque, was well known and he loved sharing his delicacies with others. Never meeting a stranger, Drew was definitely a people person and animal lover. His kind heart and caring spirit always shined through. Woodfin Memorial Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements. Visitation will be Fri., Aug. 17, 2012, 4:00 until 8:00 pm with funeral services on Sat, Aug 18, 2012, at 1:00 pm conducted by Bro. Michael Murray of New Vision Baptist Church. Interment will be at Triune Cemetery. On line condolences may be made to www.woodfinchapel.com (615) 893-5151.
