Dorothy Jones, age 88 of Chicago, Illinois, formerly of Memphis and Murfreesboro, Tennessee died Friday, November 4, 2016 at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Richmond, Indiana to the late Susie and William Burdette. At age sixteen, she graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and began her career. On November 19, 1944 she wed Gene Jones and they remained a devoted couple until Gene's death March 30, 2005.
Dorothy was a wonderful wife and a caring devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She spent her life giving unconditional love and unfailing support to all she knew. Dorothy was an avid reader, enjoyed writing poetry, various hobbies and was a former member of Northside Wesleyan Methodist Church
She will be missed by those whose lives she enriched with her loving compassion and kindness. The sun shall not shine as brightly without Dorothy in this world.
Survivors include her children, Janene Gremillion and husband Stan, Mark Jones, and Judy Miranda; grandchildren, Tamara Gremillion and husband Frank Purvis, Kelly Mack and husband Joe, Cynthia Gremillion and husband Marx Sterbcow, and Eric Jones; great-grandchildren, Marley and Seamus Mack, Davis and Cohen Sterbcow, and Courtlyn Purvis.
In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Jones, DDS; her youngest son Timothy Jones, and her beloved great granddaughter, Larsen Purvis.
Visitation with the family will be Friday, November 11, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, Murfreesboro. Pastor Robert Donat will officiate. Burial will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016 in Memory Hill Gardens, Memphis, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to either Northwestern Memorial Hospital Alzheimers Center/Research Center where Dorothy was a patient or the founding of Alagielle Syndrome Research.
