Dorothy "Dot" Sanders Hoover, age 89, passed away November 16, 2013 at NHC following an extended illness. She was a native of Rutherford County and the last surviving child of the late John C. and Ersie Jarman Sanders. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James T. Hoover Jr., who died in 1982; four brothers, Howard, Bernice, Jarman, and the Rev. Robert Sanders; and two sisters, Marguerite Sanders, and Carmine Parker Jamison Hart. Mrs. Hoover was a retired Civil Service employee in Nashville and at Sewart Air Force Base in Smyrna, and later served as a day-care worker at Third Baptist Church. In past years she was active at the St. Clair Senior Center where she played Bridge and won various awards competing in billiard sports. She is survived by her son, J. David Hoover and his wife Kathy; a daughter Lisa Hoover Pirtle and her husband Danny, all of Murfreesboro; two grandsons, Chip Hoover and his wife Aimee, and Andrew Hoover; and four granddaughters, Jennifer and Jessica Pirtle, Bethany Pirtle Wood and her husband Josh, and Mary Frances Hoover Luffman and her husband Justin. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, Holden, Hudson, Mollie Grace, Addeline, Eleanor, and Sawyer, as well as several nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00PM at Woodfin Funeral Chapel in Murfreesboro with Pastor Steve Hutson and Glenn Garner officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, grandsons-in-law, and nephews.
