Doris Mildred Johnson, age 98 of Murfreesboro, formerly of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016. She was a native of 6 mile, IL and the daughter of the late Lee and June Price Rose. She was also preceded in death by her husband Clinton L. Johnson and son, Dennis C. Johnson.

Graveside service will be 1:00pm Tuesday at Metropolis Memorial Gardens, Metropolis, IL. Larry Lunsford will officiate.

She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Vick and her husband Claud, Beverly Allen, grandchildren, Debra (Wendell) Savely, Tracy (Lori) Allen, all of Murfreesboro, Joe (Cathy) Johnson of Cunningham, KY, Sheryl (Jack) Rolfe, Paul (Kathy) Johnson, both of Metropolis, IL; 11 great grandchildren.

After her children were grown, Doris worked as a nurse technician at her local hospital, and then furthered her career by becoming an LPN. She practiced nursing over 20 years, but at the age of 70, chose to retire while she was in good health. She enjoyed ceramics, shopping, gardening, walking, fishing, playing the piano and organ and periodically serving as a church pianist. She volunteered at Meals on Wheels Program in Metropolis, IL.

She loved her Lord, her church and set a wonderful example for her family and friends. She was a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God in Metropolis, until her health declined. She will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew and loved her.

Memorials may be made to the Belle Aire Baptist Church Library or Southeast Baptist Church in her memory.
