Donnie Joe "Coach" Carter, age 69 of Smyrna, TN went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 13, 2015. He was an active deacon at Miracle Baptist Church. Mr. Carter was a 1964 graduate of Smyrna High School and he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. In 1969 Donnie formed his first youth football team that led to the start of the Smyrna Youth Football League. He also enjoyed keeping stats for Smyrna High School for many years. His lifelong love of the game has touched and shaped the lives of many. Mr. Carter is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Cindy Carter; son, DJ Carter and his wife Michelle; grandchildren, Mac, Ty and Grace Carter; son, Lee Carter and his wife Meleah; grandchildren, Dylan and Dawson Carter; and son, Steve Carter and his wife Sasha; and grandchildren, Blaine and Cade Carter all of Smyrna, TN; and brother, Wayne Carter and his wife Lisa of Cleveland, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Rose Carter. Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at LifePoint Church in Smyrna. Brother Carl Scarlett will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. all at LifePoint Church. Coach Wisdom, Coach Fain, Coach Maxwell, Kevin Slate, Philip Shadowens, Donnie Thompson, Billy Spann and Daniel Childs will serve as pallbearers. Coach Raikes, AC Puckett, Bubba Brown, Campbell Murphy, Richard Durham, Mark Dye, John Pickard, Dennis Johnson, All Bonanza Cowboys, Co-Op Cowboys, AAA Bulldogs, BB Bulldogs, BBB Bulldogs, and the Smyrna Bulldogs will serve as honorary pallbearers.
