DONALD WARD SMITH age 82 of Murfreesboro died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 24, 2011. He was a native of Overton County and the son of the late Ambers and Pearl York Smith. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Booher and brother, Harley Smith. Funeral service will be 1:00pm Sunday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Rev. Joe Elliott will officiate. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory, Morrison, TN. He was a devoted family man, husband, dad, grandfather, and great grandfather and is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia, daughters, Paula (Jim) Lieb, and Cathy (Jeff) Phillips, grandchildren, Stephanie (Daniel) Spicer, Brent Hulsey, Amanda Hulsey, Donald DJ Phillips, Taylor Phillips, and great granddaughter, Alexandra Spicer. Don served his country in the United States Air Force, was a retired tool and die maker at General Electric and owned and operated Mid-State Fence Company. He loved being outdoors and spent weeks camping with his family on Center Hill Lake. Extended family will serve as pallbearers.
