Donald G. Hollingsworth, age 88, of Murfreesboro, TN died on December 21, 2017 with his beloved wife of 36 years Helen by his side, surrounded by family and loved ones.

He was born in Akron, OH in 1929 to Prentice and Vera Haston Hollingsworth and graduated from Tennessee Tech University with a degree in business. A proud Army veteran, Don served with honor in the Korean War, where he was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his heroic service.

After several years as a radio announcer in Cookeville and Chattanooga, Don built a long and successful career at State Farm Insurance, where he had many good friends and golf buddies among his colleagues. An avid golfer and sports fan, Don loved taking long drives and traveling to new and interesting places with Helen – often to see a Tech football or basketball game; their travels took them everywhere from Hawaii to Europe and many places in between. Most recently, Don was thrilled to be accompanied by his son on an Honor Flight for military veterans to Washington, D.C.

A faithful member of East Main Church of Christ, Don is survived by his loving wife Helen, son Greg Hollingsworth and his wife Lynne, daughter Debra Hopkins and her husband Jim, daughter Angie Wesson and her husband Bobby, grandchildren Matt Hollingsworth and his wife Rachel, Emily Hollingsworth, Sam Hollingsworth, Blake Titshaw and his wife Meagan, Justin Wesson and his wife Kendra, and eight great grandchildren who loved their Papa. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Hollingsworth and stepson, Troy Givens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alive Hospice in memory of Don.

Funeral service will be 1:00pm Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Wayne Lankford will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.
