February 24, 1954 – October 4, 2019
Dennis "Kent" Sterling, age 65, passed away October 4, 2019 after a battle with brain cancer. Kent was born in Fort Campbell, KY and grew up in Memphis, TN. He graduated from the University of Memphis in 1978 with a degree in business administration. He moved to Tulsa, OK in 1982 and worked for Charles Chips and Frito Lay before relocating his family to Murfreesboro in 1995. Kent recently retired as Director of Sales/ "King of Beer" for DET Distributing. He married his wife, Tami, in 2012.
Kent was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and a leader in countless ministries there over the last 24 years. He enjoyed traveling, photography, golf, and woodworking. He was famous for making homemade cookies, by the hundreds, for friends and family. Above all else, Kent was a truly kind and genuine person – a loving husband, father, mentor, and friend.
Kent was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and James Sterling. He is survived by his loving wife, Tami Sterling, sons Christopher Sterling (Gracie) and Jordan Sterling, brother Jimmy Sterling (Ann), sisters Susan Sterling and Sally Sutton (Dennis), brother-in-law Tommy Waggoner (Steven), former spouse Terri Donovan (Mike), and pets Zoey, Pesto, and Koto.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 12:30 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church parish hall, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church (Murfreesboro, TN) or Alive Hospice.
