Denison Taylor, age 90 of Smyrna, died Tuesday at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. He was a native of Los Angeles, CA and a son of the late Richard and Anida Denison Taylor. He was also preceded by a brother, Edwin D. Taylor; a sister, Joan Taylor; and a nephew, Denison "Little Denny" Taylor.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Carolyne K. Taylor; daughters, Debby Gill and husband Joe, Cheryl Taylor, and Linda Brumley and husband David; four grandchildren, Kelly Garner and husband Warren, Kyle Gill and wife Beth, Nora Powell and husband Corbin, James Brumley and wife Victoria; eight great-grandchildren, Ashton, Gracie Charlynne, Carolyne, Brinlee, Taylor, Georgia, Eli, and Avery.
Mr. Taylor retired as a SMSGT from the US Air Force after 30 years of service. He was a C-130 Hercules flight engineer/instructor affectionately known as "Throttles", and an original member of the Four Horseman precision flying team made up of four C-130's. He served in various places at home and abroad and was always proud of his service and country.
As a member of Stones River Baptist Church since 1958, he served as church treasurer, and deacon including eight years as Chairman of Deacons, and most recently becoming Deacon Emeritus in 2011. He was a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in the Al Menah Temple, and a Freemason. He was also known for his many characters he portrayed.
Denny will be sadly missed by his morning coffee group, Heaven Bound Sunday school class, The Gutterball Grannies, and numerous friends and loved ones.
Visitation will be Thursday night from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Stones River Baptist Church and again Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Bros. G. Ross Maroney, W.D. Thomason, and Dan Dale will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
