David C. Pitts, age 86 of Murfreesboro, TN, formerly of Cleveland, OH, passed away Sunday December 2, 2012. A native of Petersburg, TN, he was the son of the late Sidney and Laura Knott Pitts. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Hullett Pitts. Mr. Pitts is survived by his son and daughter in-law Melvin and Terry Cunningham; grandchildren, Joshua and Chad Cunningham all of Murfreesboro, TN; several nephews, nieces, and cousins. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel and 2:00PM at Mt. View AME Church in Winchester, TN with Rev. Robert Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Winchester City Cemetery. Mr. Pitts was a retired educator. He received his Bachelors Degree from Alabama A&M College Mechanical Arts. He also attended Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State University, and received his Masters Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision in 1979 from the John Carroll University. Mr. Pitts served in the U. S. Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He was ordained a Deacon in the New Sardis Primitive Baptist Church in Cleveland, OH in 1971 where he was a very active member.
