David Wayne Mayberry, age 61, of Smyrna, TN passed away on October 4, 2018. Born July 29, 1957 to Joyce Ann Kirby Mayberry and Theodore Lee Earnest Mayberry in Lynchburg, VA, Mr. Mayberry was raised in Upper Marlboro, MD. After high school, Mr. Mayberry enlisted in the United States Army, and was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Regiment better known as The Old Guard. As a member of The Old Guard, he had the high honor of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery, VA. He received commendation from President Jimmy Carter for exemplary performance of his duties as a soldier.
After completing his years of military service, Mr. Mayberry was employed with American Airlines, where he continued to work for over 30 years. Mr. Mayberry was a member of the local union, Transport Workers Union 514. Over the course of his career, Mr. Mayberry had the opportunity to work throughout the country including locations in Washington, D.C.; Honolulu, HI; Chicago, IL; Lubbock, TX; Nashville, TN; and Dallas, TX. Mr. Mayberry appreciated the many friends and co-workers who supported him wherever he traveled.
Mr. Mayberry was most proud of his sons, David Lee Mayberry and Dalton Rhea Mayberry both of LaVergne, TN. He enjoyed watching and supporting the Washington Redskins, and also watched and coached baseball. Mr. Mayberry also had a great love of nature and his dogs.
Mr. Mayberry is predeceased by his parents and beloved dog, Jazzy. He is survived by his sons; his brother, Calvin Mayberry (wife Terri) of North Carolina; his sister, Rebecca Roussillon (husband Jerry) of Maryland; and also by his nieces, great-niece, great-nephews, and puppy, Ginger.
Visitation will be October 8 from 4 to 7 pm at Woodfin Funeral Chapel in Smyrna. Military services and inurnment will follow on October 17 at 2pm at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Nashville.
