David L. Slim Floyd, age 93, of LaVergne, died Tuesday, August 7, 2012. Mr. Floyd was a native of Sparta, TN, and was the son of the late Robert and Clara Walden Floyd. Mr. Floyd was also preceded in death by his wife Ida May Warpool Floyd who died in 1996; brothers Elisha, Dee, Steve, Thurman and Silas Floyd; and one sister Easter Richards. Mr. Floyd is survived by his nieces Opal Kirby of Sparta, Helen Hutchings and her husband Don of Soddy Dai sy; and nephews Tim Floyd of Denver, Jim Floyd, Bill Floyd, Silas Bucky Floyd, Jr. and Steve Floyd all of Sparta. Mr. Floyd was a proud WWII, Army veteran with several years of service. He was also a member of Mt. View Baptist Chuch. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Friday at Mt. View Baptist Church. Pastor Gary Mullins will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Dr. Jonathan Hutchings, Steven Hutchings, Roger Yates, Steve, Jim, Bill and Silas Floyd will serve as pallbearers.
