Dara M. Shaver, age 90, passed away peacefully February 22, 2012 at Tennessee State Veterans Home, in Murfreesboro, TN. Prior to her placement there in January, she lived for five years at Stones River Manor. The family wishes to thank the staff at both facilities for their kind and capable care. Dara was born July 14, 1921 in Watertown, TN to Ballard and Mettie Cunningham Griffin. She married Ralph Shaver on January 20, 1946. Dara was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was of the Baptist faith. Dara served our country during WWII. She joined the army in 1943 and worked as an office manager for a medical dispensary, attaining the rank of sergeant. After marrying Ralph, who was an army Warrant Officer, the family lived in Germany, Japan, Hawaii, New Orleans, New Jersey, and Virginia. Dara was employed for several years as a bookkeeper at Cavaliers Auto Supply, in Woodbridge, VA. She enjoyed ceramics, and painting as hobbies. Several of her ceramic pieces and portraits adorned her home. Dara is survived by sons Keith (Jill) Shaver of Murfreesboro, TN, and Mark Shaver, of Woodbridge, VA, and grandson Daniel (Tiffany) Shaver, and great grandson Max Shaver, of Smyrna, TN. Preceding her in death was her husband Ralph, her parents Ballard and Mettie, and brothers Wayne Griffin, Layne Griffin, Doyle Griffin, Fred Griffin, and sisters Adelle Griffin, Edith Griffin, and Ellen Sauls. Woodfin Funeral Chapel, 1488 Lascassas Pike, Murfreesboro, TN, is in charge of arrangements. The procession will depart from Woodfins at 2:45pm, on Sunday, February 26, 2012.
