Clifton A. "Cliff" Cowan , age 91 of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away Wednesday December 16, 2015. A native of Sumner County, he was the son of the late Oscar William and Lena Cherry Cowan. Mr. Cowan was also preceded in death by four sisters and six brothers.

Mr. Cowan is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jimmie Smith Cowan; daughter, Regina Shew and her husband Mike; son, Roger Cowan and his wife Connie all of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Julie Burnum of Fayetteville, TN, Aaron Shew of Fayetteville, AR, Josh and Caleb Shew of Murfreesboro, TN, Jessica Novak of Murfreesboro, TN and Emily Whitsett of Murfreesboro, TN; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Alvin Cowan and his wife Clara of Lebanon, TN.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Dr. Dean Sisk and Dr. Adam Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with the Phil Huddleston Sunday School Class of Belle Aire Baptist Church serving as pallbearers.

Mr. Cowan was owner and operator of Cowan's Department Store from 1950 to 1985. He was ordained as a deacon in 1957, and was a faithful member of Belle Aire Baptist Church. Mr. Cowan was a US Army veteran having served in WWII.
