February 22, 1939 – July 19, 2017
Claude Beverly Leyhew, age 78, was a resident of Murfreesboro and Covington, TN passed away Wednesday, July 19th after a lengthy illness. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam Oliver and Estelle Davis Leahew. Mr. Leyhew was a member of the Baptist Church and a graduate of Walter Hill School in 1958.
He began his career in the trucking industry in 1962 as a driver for Murfreesboro Freight Line. In 1974, he was elected Trustee at Teamsters Local 480 out of Nashville, TN. In 1977, he was elected Vice-President and then in 1993, President of Local 480. He was known for his honesty and integrity.
After retirement, he spent most of his leisure time fishing, hunting and working with his award-winning bird dogs. He was affiliated with Pheasant Creek Hunting Preserve for several years as a guide.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Arms Leyhew, three sons Johnny Leyhew and wife Cindy, Dickie Leyhew and wife Dimitri, Brian Wright and wife Jessica all of Murfreesboro; two daughters Melanie Cooley and husband Jeffrey of Covington, and Tammy Wright-Taylor of Murfreesboro; three brothers John Leyhew and wife Eva, Joe David Leahew and wife Peggy of Murfreesboro and Robert Leahew and wife Pat of Readyville; sister Wanda Barrett and husband Glen of Murfreesboro; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, also survived by one aunt Dorothy Taylor of LaVergne.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Barrett, Jack Davis, Stuart Holliman and Charles "TD" Todd.
Visitation will be 4:00PM-8:00PM Friday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be 1:00PM Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, officiating will be Charles "Ike" Davis and Pastor Jimmy Arms. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. www.woodfinchapel.com
