CLARA VIRGINIA LUTHER RUBENS GRIFFIN, age 89 of Murfreesboro passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, February 15, 2011. She was a native of Burns, TN and the daughter of the late Elbert and Helen Marie Ligon Luther. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred J. Rubens, Sr., former Professor of Art at MTSU, and daughters, Cheryl Ann and Lisa Claire. Funeral service will be 10:00am Friday at Advent Lutheran Church. Pastor Bob Maier will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. She is survived by her son, Fred J. Rubens, Jr of Birmingham, AL, daughters, Sandra Rubens Gardner of Lenoir City, TN, Helen Rubens Johnson of Murfreesboro, sister, Chris Lazenby of White Bluff, TN, grandchildren, Heather Vandenbergh of Hendersonville, Erin Butterworth of Murfreesboro, Dylan Gardner of Nashville, Amy Gardner of Nashville, Trey Johnson of Murfreesboro, Courtney Rubens of Nashville, Anna Rubens, Katherine Rubens, Carol Rubens all of Birmingham, and 8 great grandchildren. Mrs. Griffin was a charter member of Advent Lutheran Church and a secretary for the State of Tennessee, Department of Education.
