April 18, 1942 – June 5, 2018
Chuck Taylor of Murfreesboro, TN, died June 5, 2018 at Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro. There will be a Celebration of Life for friends and family at the Stones River Country Club on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Chuck grew up in the Bedford/Rutherford County area where he was an outstanding athlete. He attended Middle Tennessee State University where he played baseball, then signed with the St. Louis Cardinals. He played professional baseball for 16 years, playing in the Major Leagues with the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Montreal Expos.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mable Prince Taylor; brother, Russell Taylor; and sister, Betty Jane Taylor. He is survived by his wife Joyce Hill Taylor; son, Chris Taylor; Chris's daughter Piper Taylor; and Chris's wife, Dr. Libby Long Taylor all of Murfreesboro; brothers Don Taylor and his wife, Joanne of Nolensville, Frank Taylor of Murfreesboro, and John Thomas Taylor of Shelbyville; and a sister, Sarah Juanita Taylor of Jacksonville, FL.
After Chuck's retirement from baseball, he and Joyce purchased the Western Auto/Ace Hardware Store in Smyrna and operated it for 10 years. Chuck was an avid golfer, enjoying many rounds at Stones River Country Club. In 1991, he suffered a cardiac arrest which resulted in a gradual decline over the years. He was a member of the Rutherford County Baseball Association Old Timers Hall of Fame; and also a member of the Blue Raider Hall of Fame.
