Cheryl "Flopsy" Mitchum Morgan

On September 8, 2026, Cheryl "Flopsy" Morgan rested in the arms of Jesus.

Born on November 29, 1948, in Dickson, TN, she spent her formative and many adult years in Waverly, TN, where she met and married her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, James Morgan, raised their two sons, Blake and Jarred, served in First Baptist Church, and completed a 30-year career teaching third graders.

Always one to take the opportunity to brag on her two boys, initiate a good tea party with the granddaughters, or sit down with a paintbrush, she hugged her way through life without hurrying, urging others to do the same. She was famous for never leaving the table before her glass of tea was empty and taking the time to make others feel loved, particularly many college students and young adults at her adopted church, One Church Calvary.

Cheri and Jim left Waverly and moved to Murfreesboro after their retirement and were quickly and completely embraced by the Lascassas Baptist congregation. Flopsy, the "grandmother name" that she invited all to call her, taught Awanas and spent countless hours with her dear friends, the Joy Makers, especially finding great comfort in them after the passing of her husband in 2020. She painted snowmen year-round, always making sure that the Star of Bethlehem was included in one of the snowflakes, and had no tolerance for a diet Coke without lime. She loved fragile trinkets, tradition, the Lord, and her family-- oh, how she loved her family.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband, James Morgan, her parents, Buddy and Martha Mitchum, and siblings Mike Mitchum and Beverly Boone. Beloved survivors include sons Blake (Stephanie) Morgan and Jarred (Jennifer) Morgan, granddaughters Molly Carter (Gavin) Logazino, Sadie (Grant) Randolph, Meredith, MIkayla, Sifa and Yeye Morgan, brother Wayland Hoit Mitchum, and her late husband's siblings in Mississippi who she always considered her own.

Loved ones will be received at Lascassas Baptist Church 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Her celebration of life will follow immediately at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, Flopsy would love donations to the Lascassas Baptist Missions Fund.
