CHARLEY HOUSTON POWELL of Murfreesboro, age 86, died Wednesday June 6, 2012. A native of Christiana, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Houston and Purlee Finger Powell. An accomplished professional photographer, Mr. Powell attended Middle Tennessee State College and was a graduate of The School of Modern Photography in New York. Hired as a photographer by the Arnold Engineering Development Center in Tullahoma in the early 1950s, his work was frequently featured in Aviation Week and Space Technology magazine, including a number of front cover photographs. He retired from AEDC in 1987. Mr. Powell was an active member of the First Baptist Church, and served as a Sunday School teacher and ordained deacon for many years. Mr. Powell is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol Crouse Powell; daughter Cindy Anderson of Birmingham, AL; son Crouse Powell of North Potomac, MD; and five grandchildren: Molly, Cole, Lauren, Zack and Haven. Visitation will be at Woodfin Funeral Chapel in Murfreesboro on Monday, June 18 at 10:00 AM followed by a memorial service at 10:30 AM. Pam Pilot of First Baptist Church will be officiating.
