Charles Wilbur Powel was received into the loving arms of the Lord on May 21, 2015, at the age of 79. He was the son of the late John Charlesworth and Fannie M. Hall Powel; grandparents, Reuben and Maude Kemmer Powel and Samuel and Matilda Sweatt Hall. He is descended from Richard Powel, an early American colonist from England; and Revolutionary Patriot, Dr. Archibald McClean and wife Ann Charlesworth. He is survived by his sister, Pauline Moore and her husband James O. Moore of Hixson; niece, Lauren Moore and her husband Tim West; great niece Emily Hope West, Chattanooga, TN; and many loving cousins and relatives. Charles was a member of College Heights Chapel. He attended Middle Tennessee College Training School. He later became a resident of "Iris House", a group home through the Rutherford County Journeys in Community Living' Center. Charles had a photogenic mind which always amazed his relatives and friends. He was a train enthusiast' (as was his great grandfather Richard Powel) and had collections of information on railroad history. He was an avid Tennessee VOL fan and was a past active volunteer with St. Clair Senior Center being involved in Meals on Wheels and the Community Food Bank. He was nominated "Volunteer of the Year" on a past occasion. We give grateful thanks to the staff members of Journeys in Community Living': Betty McNeeley, Director; Angie Back; Lois McAdoo; Frances Cook; Carol Poteet; as well as wonderful caretakers Amaris' and Lisa', who helped to provide a happy productive life for Charles. Funeral services will be at 11:30am Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Ben Earthman will officiate. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00am until time for services. Memorials may be made to Journeys in Community Living', 1130 Haley Road, Murfreesboro, TN 37129 in memory of Charles.
