Obituary

Charles Edward Moudy went home to be with the Lord on July 14, 2011 at Alive Hospice. Charlie was born in Springfield, TN on October 14, 1922, the son of the late William Leonard and Maggie Felts Moudy. He is also preceded in death by his five brothers and sisters: Bill Moudy, Mildred Neal, Mary Frances Griesbach, Lorene Jones Nelson, and Lynnette Powell. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Frances Warden Moudy. He is also survived by 3 daughters and their husbands: Ann and Mike Allen, Nancy and Tom Potter, and Lynn and Randall Ferguson. He adored his six grandchildren: Jay (Michelle) Ferguson, Dan (Heather) Ferguson, Emily Allen, Andrew Allen, Sarah Potter and Anna Potter; and his six great-grandchildren: Asher, Graham and Reilly Cate Ferguson, Jack and Caroline Ferguson and Hailey Gleaves. Charlie grew up in Springfield, TN. He was an All-state basketball and football player at Springfield High School. He received an athletic scholarship to Tennessee Tech University where he met his beloved Frances. He was drafted into World War II after 2 years at Tech and served with the 10th Mountain Division in Italy. He received the Purple Heart for injuries he received while serving. He and Frances married in 1945 and Charlie started pharmacy school at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. After pharmacy school, he worked at a pharmacy in McMinnville, TN for several years until he bought Buchanan and Tarpley Drug Store on the square in Murfreesboro. Buchanan and Tarpley became Moudy Drugs which was a popular meeting place for the local community. He was also an avid golfer, playing into his mid-80s. He was a communicant of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Murfreesboro, TN. For many years, he and Frances delivered Frances homemade bread to everyone who signed a visitors card St. Paul. After his retirement, he and Frances loved to travel, taking many tours all over the U.S. Charlie and Frances were a wonderful example of a committed, Christian marriage to all of their children and grandchildren. They were devoted to family and friends and he will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Tennessee Chapter, 4825 Trousdale Drive, Suite 238, Nashville, TN, 37220. A memorial service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at St. Pauls Episcopal Church with Rev. Gene Wise officiating. Visitation will be in the parish hall following the service.
