Obituary

Charles Robert "Bob" Bowen, age 98, of Murfreesboro, died at AdamsPlace on Thursday, July 10, 2014. He was a native of Logan, OH and the son of the late Charles Edward and Ethel Hilles Bowen. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Burns Bowen. Memorial service will be 4:00pm Wednesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Rev. Bob Tuttle will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Mr. Bowen is survived by his wife, Ann Pickle Smith Bowen, daughter, Ann Davis and her husband Toby of Lowville, NY, grandchildren, Logan Murphy and wife April and McKenzie Murphy of NY, three great grandchildren. Mr. Bowen was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, served in the US Navy during WWII and was a retired History Professor. He received his Bachelors degree at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, OH and his Masters degree from Ohio State University. He taught for 30 years at Canal Zone College in Panama, Canal Zone. He retired from the History Department at MTSU. Memorial may be made to the Ernest Hooper History Scholarship Fund at MTSU or the Salem United Methodist Church in memory of Mr. Bowen.
