Obituary

Carol Ann Caldwell died Monday, July 20, 2015, at her home in Murfreesboro, TN, with her family by her side. She was 79. A daughter of the late Stanley and Edna May (Cummins) Robison, she grew up in the Milford, OH, school system where she gained a lifelong love of learning. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a teaching certificate and made a career in education, primarily at Union Elementary School, Lakota School District in West Chester, OH, where she was a fourth grade teacher. She was the recipient of several honors and awards from her peers and retired after 25 years of service. Carol was active in both civic and professional organizations. She gladly participated in her children's many activities, including 4-H, Brownies and Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and PTO. She was a voracious reader on many topics and enjoyed wide ranging discussions from politics and history to sports and medicine. Early in their married life, Carol and her husband Don discovered a passion for travel throughout the United States, particularly in the western states. On these vacations, Carol rejoiced in her love of nature and wildlife. Her wicked sense of humor, merry laugh, and the twinkle in her eye made her a great conversationalist, even as she staunchly defended the opposite side of any discussion. In 2005, Carol and Don moved to Murfreesboro, TN, in order to enjoy their grandchildren. She delved into their activities and became an integral part of their lives. She attended everything from band competitions to soccer games and was a regular at her daughter's performances with the Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra. Carol had a steady faith and an extensive prayer list that included relatives, personal friends, and her daughter's friends and acquaintances. Even in her last days, she asked about those who were deepest on her heart. Carol is survived by her husband of 60 years, Donald Caldwell; a daughter, Donna Wehofer, son-in-law Steve, and grandsons Christopher and Michael of Murfreesboro; a son, Douglas Caldwell of Cincinnati, OH; and a host of loving family and friends. Her sister Barbara Lee Skidmore predeceased her. Visitation with the family will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, Murfreesboro, TN. Memorial services follow at 5:00 p.m. An online guestbook is available for Mrs. Caldwell at www.woodfinchapel.com. The family requests memorials to the Linebaugh Public Library, 105 W. Vine St., Murfreesboro, TN 37130, or to the Humane Society of the United States (animal rescue and care), Gift Donations, 2100 L Street, NW, Washington, DC 20037.
