Obituary

Carl Eugene Quakenbush, age 62 of Murfreesboro, passed away Sunday August 23, 2015 following a bicycle accident. A native of Russiaville, Indiana, Carl graduated Western High School and Purdue University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1976. He worked as an engineer for Kohler Company before starting a career in the food industry at Kraft General Foods, Pillsbury, and General Mills, from which he retired in 2013. Never one to sit idle, he began pursing many new hobbies. A lifelong tinkerer, he was president of the Nashville chapter of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. He served as a Board member of the local chapter of United Way and strongly felt called to try and give back to the community. He enjoyed biking and was a big fan of Purdue basketball and Auburn football. He was fortunate enough in life to be able to see a great deal of the world and will leave behind so many people full of amazing memories. He was a great father, husband, uncle, cousin, friend, and grandpa and will be irreplaceable. He was proceeded in death by parents Richard and Shirley (Keithley) Quakenbush of Russiaville, Indiana. Carl is survived by his wife of 38 years, Wanita (Davis) Quakenbush; two sons, Ash (Jennifer) Quakenbush, Chelsea, Alabama; and Alex Quakenbush of Birmingham, Alabama; three granddaughters, Tabitha, Delilah and Victoria Quakenbush. He is also survived by special nieces Briana Lemen, Lindsey Dodge, and nephew John Lemen, all of Murfreesboro, and great-nephew Braden Lemen; two sisters, Linda Drake (Phillip) of Kokomo, Indiana, and Carolyn (Ronald) Stinnett of Falls of Rough, Kentucky, as well as several other nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, August 28th from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro. Funeral service will be 11:00am Saturday with Derrick Hartley officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family wishes that memorials be made to Boys and Girls Clubs or United Way.
