Obituary

Carl A. Mongrue, age 85 of Birmingham, Alabama died Tuesday October 27, 2009 at Adams Place in Murfreesboro, TN. A native of Luling, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Achille and Emma (Kinler) Mongrue. Mr. Mongrue is survived by one son; Carl Mongrue Jr. of Atlanta GA., two daughters and son in laws; Cindy and Bob Beecher of Wisconsin, and Cher and Ricky Jones of Murfreesboro, TN., six grandchildren; Heather Gunther, Gina Whitehouse, Holly Beecher, Brittni Jones, Timothy Jones and Rick Jones, four great-grandchildren; Aramis, Ariana, Dawson and Daelyn Whitehouse and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Angela Marie Mongrue, his three sisters; Maude Hymel, Milda Keller, and Tessie LeJeune, and two brothers; Liethian Mongrue and Roy Mongrue. Graveside and burial service will be Friday at 1:00 P.M. at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, in Birmingham, Alabama. Mr. Mongrue was of the Catholic faith. He attended LSU and received a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was employed with the largest elevator companies in America; Westinghouse, Otis and Dover for whom he retired from in Birmingham Alabama in 1986. Mr. Mongrue was a World War II combat veteran, who flew in a B-17 named Who Dat as a radio operator/gunner over the European Theatre. He was awarded a Distinguish Flying Cross, Four Air Medals and a Purple Heart. He was a member of the 381st Bomber Group. He was also featured in the 1984 NBC documentary, All the Fine Young Men.
