Carl Richard Maxson passed away at age 80 in his home in Murfreesboro, TN, October 2, 2015, surrounded by his wife and children. Born in Portville, NY, on September 12, 1935 to Braton and Pauline Maxson, Carl was employed by Olean Tile Company, for whom he worked for over 40 years. He graduated from Portville Central High School in 1953 and began work for the tile company. Carl married his lovely wife Lorraine Downs Maxson on August 4, 1956 and recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. While living in Portville, Carl was a member of the Portville Volunteer Fire Department in Portville, NY. Carl retired in 1994 at which point he turned his attention to golf, square dancing, grandfathering, singing, and volunteering. Carl and Lorraine enjoyed square dancing for over 50 years. Carl was a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Murfreesboro and sang in the United Methodist choir. Carl volunteered making wheel chairs for people with disabilities and also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Carl is survived by his wife Lorraine Maxson; his children Diane Blauvelt (and husband Michael) from Portville, NY, his daughter Carla Maxson of Smyrna, TN, and his son Brian Maxson (and wife Pamela) from Durham, NC; his grandchildren Angela Blauvelt, Tonya Blauvelt, Christopher Blauvelt, Brayton Maxson, Benjamin Maxson, and Amanda Maxson; and his great grandchildren Kyle Blauvelt and Kylie Blauvelt. Carl is also survived by his brother John Maxson (Olean, NY), his sister Martha Jean Kemsley and Jared Kemsley (Springville, NY), his sister Patricia Wilkins (Lakeland, FL), and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Woodfin Funeral home. Services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Portville, NY at a later date.
