Carl Francis Hirst – Murfreesboro, 77, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at his home. He was the son of the late Mary Frances McMinnis Hirst and Carl Fessey Hirst of Nashville, TN. He is preceded in death by his wife Mattie Dibona Hirst. He is survived by his sister, Mary Dianne Hirst McBrayer of Trinity, FL and brother Phillip Hirst of Nashville, TN. He is also survived by nieces and nephews that include Stephanie Hirst Sutton (Toney) of Kingston Springs, TN, Matthew Hirst and Michael Hirst (Brandy) of Cincinnati, OH, Helen McBrayer Dement (Thomas) and Melissa McBrayer Howser (Hugh) of Nashville, TN, Doris McBrayer Metz (Craig) and James Harold McBrayer, III of Trinity, FL and Adam McBrayer of Knoxville, TN and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Carl attended Cathedral grade school and graduated from Father Ryan High School, class of 1966. After high school, Carl was drafted into the US Army and served in the Vietnam War. After he returned home, he worked in the printing business with Baird Ward Printing Company and M. Lee Smith Publishers until he retired. Carl was a parishioner of St. Luke's Catholic Church. He enjoyed visiting with his family, friends and neighbors, hunting, fishing, and treasure hunting with his metal detector.
Visitation and the funeral mass will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 10682 Old Nashville Highway, Smyrna, TN 37167. The visitation will be Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 11:00am. The Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 12:00pm. Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Nashville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke's Catholic Church or DAV: Disabled American Veterans. Funeral services are under the direction of Woodfin Funeral Chapels and an online guestbook is available for the Hirst family at www.woodfinchapel.com .
