Obituary

C. Perry Potts died Monday May 24, 2010 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville Tn. He was born March, 16, 1937 in Columbia, TN. He was the son of the late Robert Easter and Avalyn Whitley Potts. He was a graduate of Central High School in Columbia, TN., Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, and the Certified Medical Representative Institute in Roanoke, Virginia. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Medical Dept. and was stationed at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA. and the Naval Air Station in Memphis, TN. While at MTSU, he served as president of the former veterans club and was active in campus politics. He was an early member of the Rock N Roll Band, The Casuals, playing bass. He toured nationally with Brenda Lee, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Big Bopper and others during the 1950s Rock N Roll Era. He served as president of the Murfreesboro Jaycees (1969-1970) and among its favorite activities was his treasured role of Santa Claus. He often continued this role for over thirty years for other community organizations. He retired from Pfizer Labs after 37 years having served as a professional sales representative, district hospital manager, and as Pfizer Senior Professional Health Care consultant for the State of Tennessee. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marie Trent Potts, children; Julie (Tom) Parrish, Bryan Potts, and Dan (Tresja) Potts and extended family member Barbara Draude, brothers; John David (Elizabeth) of Columbia and Bobby (Paula) Potts of Woodbury. He leaves beloved grandchildren, Trey, Trent, and Ryann Parrish, Demi, Andrew and Anna Potts, Caroline and Joy Potts. Additional survivors include his sister in law and husband Annette and (Dave) Davis of Greenville, PA and Jeannette Cluett of Fort Yates North Dakota, and Isabelle and Elmer Landreaux of Fort Yates North Dakota. Pallbearers will be Trey and Trent Parrish, Andrew Potts, Dave Davis, Tom Parrish and long time friend Paul LeMay. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nick Dudiak, Bill Bickford, Gary Garrett, Bill Jones, Ray Vaughn, Pete Black, Delbert Goodman, Wilburn Potts, Tommy Hite and all the members of Hardees Coffee Club. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 PM to 8PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 10AM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Murfreesboro, TN. Father Mark Sappenfield will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. He was active in RCIA and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Rose. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Middle Tennessee Medical Center Foundation, to either the Buck Baldwin Allied Health Scholarship Fund or the Jean Hastings Scholarship fund.
