BONNIE POWELL BROTHERS, age 66 passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Adams Place. A native of Houston County, TN. she lived in Rutherford County most of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Carmel Harris Powell and a brother, Norman Powell of TX. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Don Doggett, Rev. David Ash, and Rev. Pam Pilote officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, September 9, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. She is survived by her devoted husband, of 45 years, Ernest W. Ernie Brothers, Jr., son, Mark (Debbie) Brothers, of Rotonda West, Fla. and daughter, Susan (Ben) Yancey, of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Rebecca Brothers, Andrew Brothers, Breanna Brothers of Florida, Laura Kate Yancey and Anna Grace Yancey of Murfreesboro, TN. She was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University where she received a Bachelor of Science (B.S) degree in Home Economics, a Master of Education (M. Ed) in Early Childhood and Educational Specialist (Ed.S) in Curriculum and Instruction. She taught school for 30 years, which included Mainz, Germany, Sevierville, Tn. and Rutherford County, Tn. She taught kindergarten at Buchanan Elementary School for 24 years, retiring in 2001. Mrs. Brothers was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, teacher and friend. She showed her love to her friends and family through her creative and innovative ideas. Genealogy was her passion and she was proud of the fact that she had one of her lines traced back to the 1400s in England. She was a member of First Baptist Church and in the Joy Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Buchanan Lunch Bunch and an honorary member of the Walter Hill Country Club. Memorials may be made to the Sarah Ministry, Joy Sunday School Class or the Kings Mens Class at First Baptist Church, 200 East Main Street. Active Pallbearers will be grandson, Andrew Brothers, Ben Cates, Mark Cooper, Bill Cox, Eddie Jernigan, Ed Jordan, Phillip Moore, Frank Ruckman, Franklin Ruckman, John Ruckman and Bob Yancey.
