Obituary

Bobby Brooks Farmer, age 82, of Murfreesboro died Sunday, August 25, 2013. Born Benton, KY to the late Sam L. and Reba Darnell Farmer. Also preceded in death by brother, Sam H. Farmer, nephew, Solon W. Farmer, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marlene Emerine Farmer, sons, Jeff Farmer and his wife Linda, John Farmer and his wife, Margaret, daughters, Julia Farmer, Jamie Farmer Oneida and her husband, Dene, brother, Solon W. Farmer and his wife, Frances of Benton, KY, grandchildren, Jill, Brett, Jennifer, Micah, Sarah, Joshua, Lindsay, Ethan and Anna, one great grandchild, Eli, sister-in-law, Royalyn Lawrence and Dan of Benton, KY, nephew, Mark Phillips and Anne and Colton of Collierville, TN, nieces, Karen, Bonnie, Debbie, and Vicki. Mr. Farmer graduated Benton High School in 1949. Joined the Navy in 1951 during the Korean War. Enlistment was for 4 years. Trained as Aviation Electronic Tech at Memphis Naval Air Station. Later was stationed at Naval Air Stations in California and Florida. And US Naval Aircraft Carrier Hornet. Discharged in 1955. Started pre pharmacy at Murray State University in summer of 1955. Started pharmacy at Memphis Medical Units 1966 and graduated in fall of 1959. Worked in Maryville, TN for 5 years before coming to work with college friend Jesse Messick at Martin Drug Store on the square in 1965. Stayed on the square 13 years then started at VA Hospital at (CMOP) mail out facility. Retired from VA after 20 years. Retired in 2012 after being a Pharmacist for 53 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, taught Sunday school, was church Training Director and an Usher. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Library in his memory. Visitation will be from 9:30 until 11:30am Saturday with a funeral service at 11:30am Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Dr. Eugene Cotey and Rev. Paul Peak will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with Military Rites. Deacon friends of First Baptist Church will serve as Pallbearers. Mr. Farmer loved sports. Played baseball and basketball in high school. He was a big University of Kentucky Basketball fan. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren play soccer, baseball, and basketball.
