Billy Joe "Bill" Matthews , age 69 of Smyrna, TN, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021. He was born in Panama City, FL to the late Alfred Henry and Doris Nell Bearden Matthews, but grew up Chattanooga, TN.

Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife, Karen Diane Matthews; sons, Nick Matthews and his wife Shannon of Murfreesboro, TN and Derek Matthews and his wife Leslie both also of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Lance, Mason, Leslie, Carsten, Madison Matthews, and Ally Ford.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 1, 2021  at Parkway Baptist Church in Smyrna, TN with Dr. Shelby Hazzard officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday prior to the Celebration of Life.

Mr. Matthews played professional baseball and was drafted in 1971 by the Oakland A's. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church, was retired from Industrial sales with Tool-Smith, loved baseball, and was an avid golfer.
