Obituary

Bettye Jane Glasscock Huggins, 83, died in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on March 6, 2015. B.J. was born on November 7, 1931, the only child of Margaret Crawley and James Pryor Glasscock. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 44 years, Camillus Brennus Huggins, IV. She is survived by her children, Susan Molloy Huggins Chandler and her husband, Bleakley; her son, Camillus Brennus Huggins, V; her grandchildren, Arthur Bleakley Chandler, III; Edward Ford Molloy Chandler; Elizabeth Murfree Chandler; Camillus Brennus Huggins, VI; and Jonathan Warick Huggins. She graduated from Baton Rouge High School and Louisiana State University with a B.A. in Music and Voice. She went on to earn her Masters Degree in Speech and Theater, also from L.S.U. B.J. was passionate about her adopted home of Murfreesboro. She was active in many civic affairs and organizations. She and her husband, Bren, helped found the Murfreesboro Little Theater where they both directed and acted in many plays over the years. She served as a commissioner on the Rutherford County Court. She had a strong interest in historic preservation and, along with Bren, helped organize the Murfreesboro Architectural Zoning Society (MAZS) and served on the Murfreesboro Historical Zoning Commission. She was a member of Charity Circle and worked to support Oaklands Historic Mansion. In recent years, she took great pleasure in assisting with the Maney Avenue Corridor development project. B.J. was a devoted member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where she faithfully attended Bible study and served on the Archives Committee. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Church on Wednesday, March 11 at 1:00 PM, with the Reverend Polk Van Zandt officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery immediately following the service. Afterwards, friends are invited to a reception at the home of Newton and Charlotte Molloy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 315 East Main Street, Murfreesboro, Tennessee 37130.
