Betty Carol Smotherman , age 73 of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away at home on Sunday April 3, 2016. A native of Winchester, TN, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert Arrington and Vergie Wiseman Clark. Mrs. Smotherman was also preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, William Larry Smotherman, by three brothers, Kenneth, Grady, and Donald Clark, and her beloved dogs.

Mrs. Smotherman is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Cushman and her husband Jonathan of Clarendon Hills, IL, and Christina Shadrick and husband Brannon of Murfreesboro, TN; grandson, Connor Cushman of Clarendon Hills, IL; sister, Doris Maloney and her husband Tom, of Geneva, IL; two sisters-in-law, a nephew, several nieces, and many wonderful and cherished friends.

Visitation will be Saturday April 16, 2016 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, with a memorial service to follow at 4:00 PM. Rev. Judy Sides will officiate.

Mrs. Smotherman received her Masters Degree and Educational Specialist Degree from Middle Tennessee State University. She was a retired Business Education teacher of 35 years, having taught at Central High School and Oakland High School.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Mrs. Smotherman.
