Obituary

Betty Lewter Horne, age 80, died Friday, February 6, 2015. Mrs. Horne was a native of the Blanche Community in Lincoln County and was a daughter of the late Marvin and Edna Jester Lewter. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry J. Horne, who died in 2012 and a brother Tom Lewter. Funeral services will be 4:00 pm Monday, February 9, 2015 at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Rev. Don Herron will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm Monday until the time of funeral services at 4:00pm. Mrs. Horne is survived by two brothers Robert Lewter and his wife Doris of Monroe, LA and Charles A. Lewter of Murfreesboro, three sisters, Mary Ellen Hatcher and her husband David of McEwen, Verna Canto of Brentwood, and Pamela Lewter of Taft Community in Lincoln County. Mrs. Horne, better known as Miss Betty in her later life, graduated salutatorian of Blanche High School, attended MTSU and UT Knoxville. She was employed by State Farm in the 50's and 60's, prior to joining her late husband, Harry J. Horne, in San Francisco in the Canadian diplomatic corps. In the early 80's, they returned to her Murfreesboro roots where she was instrumental in founding the River Rock Baptist Church as a charter member. Simultaneously volunteering as a diplomat with the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce and serving as the unofficial photographer in the Chamber's early years. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Long Term Care at Adams Place.
