Obituary

Betty (Peggy) Jean Gregory Bowers Passed from this world on June 8, 2010 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 8th to Luther Lee Gregory and Eron B. Campbell in Andalusia, Alabama, she is preceded in death by her parents, husband Hugh (Red) Bowers, grandson Joshua Bowers, sisters Margarete Baker and Sybil Barnes, and brothers Rathel and Tom Gregory. She is survived by three devoted children Helen (Eddie) Harris, Greg (Edna) Bowers, and Thomas (Melissa) Bowers. Grandchildren Brandy (Keith) Schleeter, Tommy Bowen, Katie Bowers, Amber Bowers, Sammie Harris, Kristin Bowers, Michael Bowers and Michael (Melissa) Harris. Great grandchildren Chandler Cantrell, Kash Schleeter, Nola Jean Schleeter, Kaylee Bowen, Kevin Gregory Bowers, Madison, McKenzie and Mitchell Harris and a host of nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in-laws. Being a military wife she was well travelled and lived all across the United States including being in Alaska when it became the 49th state. She lived and visited foreign countries such as Lebanon, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Israel, Egypt, Spain, England, and France. She was a long-time business owner in Smyrna which included the Smyrna One Stop Market, B and B Market (which is now Florence Station), Reds Food Market, LaVergne One Stop Market, Smyrna Mini Market, Trading Post Market, and Trading Post Auto Sales and Car Center that she owned with her two sons. She enjoyed trips to Tunica, Reno, Las Vegas, New Orleans and was a fan of the slot machines. She had a quick sense of humor and when she made a friend it was forever. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend. A special thank you to Mayfield Rehab Center for their loving care, Dr. William K. Reid and Staff and the nurses on the 6th floor Oncology Unit at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. Services will be Friday at 2:00 PM at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens beside her husband of 50 years Red Bowers.
