Bennie Lee Edwards , age 84 of Mt. Juliet, TN passed away Sunday August 6, 2017. Born in the Fellowship Community in Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Hiram Epps Edwards, Sr., and Erlene McPeak Edwards. Mr. Edwards was also preceded in death by his sisters, Pauline and Lorene Edwards, Juanita Edwards Burlason Johnson, and Edna E. Comer, and a brother, Thomas Edwards.
Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maie Short Edwards; brothers, Hiram Edwards, Jr., Will Davis Edwards, Cecil Edwards and his wife Ernesteen all of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Leon Edwards and his wife Faye of Pegram, TN; sisters, Gloria Swanner and her husband Bob, Gay Humfield, and Bobbie Nabors and her husband Charles all of Mt. Juliet, TN; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at Living Springs Baptist Church, with Rev. Milton Hicks, Dr. Carl Duck and Rev. Edgar Boles officiating. Burial will follow in the Lannom Cemetery with military honors. Ed Comer, Ronnie, Matthew, Stephen, Tim, and Sammy Edwards, DuWayne Kessler, Chris Swanner, Steve Young and Ty Short will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Living Springs Baptist Church Believer's Sunday School class. Visitation will be 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna, and from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM Wednesday at Living Springs Baptist Church.
Mr. Edwards was a faithful member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher of Living Springs Baptist Church. He served as an active deacon in the Baptist Church for 57 years. Mr. Edwards was a US Army veteran, and retired from the US Department of Labor as the Area Director of the Wage and Hour Division after 35 years of service. Mr. Edwards received his BS degree from the UT Knoxville. He did mission work in several countries as well as the United States, and was a member of the Gideon's International Smyrna, LaVergne Camp.
