Benjamin "Big
Ben" Butzbach
August 2, 1984 – October 31, 2017
Benjamin "Big Ben" Butzbach, age 33, passed away on October 31, 2017 in Murfreesboro, TN. He was born in Wilmington, Delaware and later moved to Tennessee when he was 11. Ben was passionate about many things. As a former first responder, he felt it was his duty to give them all the support he could. Through Firehouse Hockey, Ben was able to help first responder and military hockey teams raise money for charity. Along with being a loving husband and father, Ben also loved fishing with his son Jake, nachos, his dogs, exotic jerky, collecting pint glasses even though he didn't drink, airplanes, patches and of course, hockey. He loved cooking and grilling, and his YouTube show "Cooking with Big Ben" had a successful one-episode run. He will forever be remembered in Smashville as Big Ben, the guy that painted his belly to pump up the crowd, and it worked so well that he successfully proposed to his wife, Brandy, on the megatron. Ben was always thinking of others, and his work giving back to the community will never be forgotten. Honoring Ben are his wife Brandy, son Jake, mother Debi, father Bob, sister Deborah Butzbach Brackin (Phillip) & their children Trey, Alex, Zach & Miles of Pennington, New Jersey, brother Robert Butzbach (Melissa), their children Olivia, Annabelle & Gabriella of Downingtown, Pennsylvania and his "other grandmother", great-aunt Doris of Margate, Florida. He was preceded in death by grandparents Frank and Lorraine Carver and Robert and LaVerne Butzbach
Public visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 pm on Friday, November 3, and again from 11am-1pm Saturday, November 4, followed by a service to celebrate Ben's life. Services and visitation will be held at Fellowship United Methodist located at 2511 TN-99, Murfreesboro, TN 37128. The family is asking all Preds fans coming to wear their jersey to honor him. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation via USAA to a college fund set up for his son, Jake, or to his beloved Firehouse Hockey.
