Obituary

BEN ALEXANDER HAYNES, age 84, of Murfreesboro passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. He was born on March 10, 1924 in Murfreesboro and lived his entire life in Rutherford County. He was preceded in death by his parents: James Fain Haynes and Edith Alexander Haynes, brother: Dan J. Haynes, sister: Evelyn C Lee and daughter: Laura M. Haynes. He is survived by his wife: Elise Leonard Haynes, four children: David Haynes and wife Tammie, Edith Smith and husband Doug, Mary Kennedy and husband Jeff, Becky Walker and husband Marty, all of Murfreesboro, sisters: Ann Cannon of Murfreesboro, and Jayne Bynum and husband James of Nashville, eight grandchildren: Carmen Leah Kennedy Skelton and husband Jesse, Mandolyn Cree Kennedy, Brandon Alexander Haynes, April Danielle Haynes Gaertner and husband Jeff, Jacob Garrette Haynes, Mallory Claire Walker Dunlap and husband Dale, Erin Elise Walker and Emma Leigh Walker, two great grandchildren: Elijah Cain Skelton and Grace Mae Skelton, Mr. Haynes attended Campus School, Crichlow and graduated from Central High School. His father owned and operated Jimmys Restaurant (currently Marinas) during his school years. His family then moved to Shady Lane and operated one of the first electric dairy operations in Rutherford County. Instead of immediately serving in the Korean War he received a hardship deferral to run the family farm. He was inducted into the US Army on January 26, 1949 and transferred to the United States Army Reserve on October 2, 1951. He was Honorably Discharged on December 6, 1954. He was baptized at East Main Church of Christ which helped establish several local Churches including Westvue Church of Christ where he met his wife of 57 years. They were married on July 5, 1951. He was an active member of the Lascassas Church of Christ serving in many roles including an Elder since 1979. He also had a Sunday Morning Radio Program on WGNS, for the last several years. Mr. Haynes was a carpenter and worked on many local buildings in Murfreesboro and Middle Tennessee. His favorite occupation was farming and gardening. He loved the Lord with all his Heart, Mind, and Soul. He lead by example and lived by II Corinthians Chapter 13. His influence and legacy will live on thru his family and friends. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00pm Friday with funeral services 3:00 pm Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. David West will officiate. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Elders and Deacons of Lascassas Church of Christ will serve as Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Lascassas Church of Christ Building Fund, 6402 Lascassas Pike, Lascassas, TN 37085 or the World Bible School, PO Box 2169, Cedar Park, TX 78630.
