Barbara Ann Smith Rungee, Murfreesboro, Tn, died on August 26, 2011at 78 years of age. She was born in Mulberry Tennessee on October 16, 1932, the daughter of the late John Edgar Smith and Sarah Ann Waggoner Smith of Mulberry. She was the last survivor of 11 siblings - stepbrother Jared Smith, half brother Charles, brothers, Joe, John Paul, Doug, and sisters Estelle, Hulda, Gladys, Ruth, and Johnnie Jewel. She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, LTC (Ret) James L. Rungee, Sr., her loving children: Dr. Jim Rungee and his wife Cathy, of Murfreesboro, Julie Cowen and her husband Gary, of Jasper, Alabama, and Teresa Hayes and her husband Jimmy of Murfreesboro, and by10 adoring grandchildren: Amy Cowen Chitwood and her husband Mike, Garrison Cowen and his wife Maggie, Kate Rungee, Joe Rungee, James Hayes, Sallie Cowen, Julie Kate Hayes, John Michael Rungee, Jeb Cowen, and Anna Rungee. Memorial service will be at 11:00am Saturday, September 3, 2011 in the sanctuary of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Main Street in Murfreesboro, the Reverend Doctor Craig Martindale officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Barbara was a 1950 graduate of Fayetteville High School and 1953 graduate of Erlanger School of Nursing in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She worked as an RN at the Murfreesboro Medical Clinic for Dr. John Alexander for over 20 years. A member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 37 years, she served as elder, spent endless hours in the church nursery, and tended to the card ministry of the church. Barbara devoted her life to her family, church, and friends, and will be greatly missed. She attributed to her husband her ability to see all things as beautiful.
