Obituary

Dr. Ann Campbell died Saturday, February 19th, at her home in Murfreesboro, TN. She was born January 6, 1948, and was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ellen and Porter Campbell of Lenoir City, TN. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Campbell, of Murfreesboro, TN; one brother Jim Campbell and wife Robin, of Greenback, TN; a dear aunt, Mary Annie Campbell, of Lenoir City, TN; close friends Twanna Cantrell, Karen Carnes, Gayle Gillespie, Marsha and John Harrison, Mildred Klinner, Susan and Ronnie Simpson, Nancy and Rick Thornton, Ruthie Threat, Susan and Dr. Phil Waldrop, and Karen and Mike Warren all of Murfreesboro, TN; Drs. Nancy and Mike Hinds of Martin, TN; Gail McLain of Columbia, SC; and a host of cherished colleagues, friends, and neighbors. Dr. Campbell was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and earned her Masters and Doctorate degrees at the University of Memphis. Ann began her career at Arkansas State University, and also taught at Murray State University before arriving at Middle Tennessee State University in 1981 where she was a Professor of Special Education. She was a woman who was an advocate of early intervention all her professional life. In 1983 she established and became the founding director of Project HELP at MTSU " a program which is now known as the Dr. Ann Campbell Early Learning Center. This early intervention program became a model for other programs across the state. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 21st, 4 pm until 7pm, in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, TN with the funeral immediately following. The Reverends Michael OBannon and Miriam Seyler will officiate. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, February 22nd, at 1pm EST at Lakeview Cemetery, Lenoir City, TN with the Reverend Kim Isley of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Searchers Sunday School Class, First United Methodist Church, Murfreesboro, TN. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 265 W.
