Andre Lamont
Black, Sr.
February 28, 1973 – November 22, 2019
André Lamont Black Sr. began his life's journey February 28, 1973, in Pontiac, MI, to the late Willie Andrew Black Jr. and Edith (Edie) Stephens-Black-Brown. Surrounded by his loving family, the Lord called André to his final resting place on November 22, 2019.
André attended Pontiac schools where he was a proud graduate from Pontiac Central High School. André was on the front page of Detroit News and was one of nineteen out of 270 people selected to receive a $10,000 scholarship to Johnson and Wales University in South Carolina for his famous carrot cake recipe that he created when he was 16 years old. André graduated from Johnson and Wales University and advanced in the field of culinary arts as a successful Chef; managing various well-known restaurants including Ruby Tuesday and Bar Louie. In April 21, 2007, André was united in holy matrimony with Lamecca Johnson of Pontiac, Michigan. Seeking an even better life, he and his family relocated to Smyrna, Tennessee. He was known for his awesome cooking, specializing in baking cakes, which led him to start a part time business selling his own customized baked goods. His friends and family enjoyed being entertained by his great sense of humor and genuine laughter. He was always flashing a bright smile and telling jokes. He was an amazing father, who was a supportive and loving husband, son, brother, and friend. André accepted everybody for who they are and/or were. He was super calm and extremely wise. As his mother proudly stated, and many agree, "André was definitely wise beyond his years."
He leaves to affectionately cherish his memories; his devoted wife Lamecca (Johnson) Black; his loving mother Edith Faye (Cle) Brown, Ivan J. Brown Sr. (Step- "Daddy"), grandmother Bunerdean Lampton-Reid; loving children Ashley, Andrea Racquel (Roc), Kazajanna, Dojanae, and André Lamont Jr. (Dre Dre); siblings William (Wil) (Shanon), Valerie, Ameilia (Ollie), Ivan Jr, Issic (Kecia), Rodney, Mini (Darren), Yolanda, James, Contessa (Dede) and one grandson, Marlo Anthony and a whole host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; Best friends Ernest Gibbs (Houdini) and Dion Branch.
André was preceded in death by his father Willie Andrew Black Jr., paternal grandfather William Andrew Black Sr. (McBlackwell), grandmother Mary Thompson-Black-Moore, and maternal grandfather John Percy (JP) Stephens Jr. and his brother Kenneth Brown.
