Alton Rowland "Muscles" Batey, age 89, of Smyrna passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016. He was a native of Rutherford County and the son of the late Ollie Columbus and Flossie Victoria Smartt Batey. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, B.W., Clifton, Junior and John Batey, Margaret Sills, Lillian Bain, Nema Mae Batey, Annie Ruth Batey and Bernice Robinson.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews including his caregivers, Sharon Barrett of Christiana and Mike Batey of Murfreesboro.

Funeral service will be 2:00pm Wednesday at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. Buddy Neal will officiate. Burial will follow in Mapleview Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Batey was a farm hand and best friend of the Harold C. Lee Family. Special thanks to the Lee Family, Community Care of Rutherford County, and ET and Clarence with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office SCAN Program for all the care they have given to Mr. Batey.
