Alfred Lee “Al” Jackson of Smyrna, TN, died July 8, 2026, at the age of 77. He was born November 2, 1948, in Oak Ridge, TN to Robert Lester Jackson, Sr. and Lora Fern Renner Jackson.
Al grew up in Oak Ridge, TN and the Karns community of Knoxville, TN with time spent as a cadet at Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, TN. He attended Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, TN, and later graduated from the Community College of the Air Force with his AA degree.
While at Tennessee Tech he met Elaine Shuster, whom he married in 1971. They would have celebrated 55 years of marriage later this month.
Al joined the U.S. Air Force in 1969 and served for over 20 years, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. After his military career, he became a structural engineering draftsman and pursued that career for many years.
Al had many hobbies and interests. Among the activities he especially enjoyed are reading, building plastic models, scuba diving, kayaking, yacht sailing, swimming, going to movies, learning about military history, playing with dogs, and going on trips or vacations of various sorts.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Bill Jackson, and several beloved dogs. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; two brothers, Robert (Margaret) Jackson of Huntsville, AL and Henry Jackson of Colorado Springs, CO; sister-in-law, Sharon Jackson of Knoxville, TN; brother-in-law, Don Shuster of Walling, TN; nephew, Jonathan Jackson (Emily) of Knoxville, TN; nephew, Darron Shuster of Sparta, TN; nephew, David Shuster of Walling, TN.
Al was a Christian and attended Highland Heights church of Christ in Smyrna, TN.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Woodfin Funeral Chapel, 203 N. Lowry St., Smyrna, TN, with funeral to follow at 2:00 PM with Doug Carlin officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, 3224 Quebeck Road, Quebeck, TN 38579 (in rural White County).
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Al to the Lawrence Gardner fund at Highland Heights church of Christ in Smyrna, TN, the USO, or any organization that benefits veterans.
